ABSTRACT
The primary purpose of this chapter is to conduct a brief historical analysis of the evolution of economics in general, and capitalism in particular, in an attempt to identify the point at which economics lost its grounding in moral philosophy and social ontology. Because of the purpose of this chapter, what follows, then, will not be a deep analysis of the thinkers and movements mentioned, but rather an overview of the key concepts and events that were critical in the evolution of economics into its current forms of neoliberal capitalism, for the purpose of understanding the phenomena that led to the current prevailing economic paradigm.
