ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the case of Annie Hirschfeld, who is an early-stage researcher and wishes to review the literature on the experience of chronic illness. Annie reads examples of how other researchers have reviewed the literature in areas that are relevant to illness experience in order to better understand how the guidelines can be applied. She starts with a more generic review of the literature by Pierret, who focused on the illness experience, and then continues with more focused reviews such as "transition" and the experience of fibromyalgia syndrome. The chapter defines what a literature review is and explains the importance of reviewing the literature. It also describes the steps involved in conducting a literature review and outlines the method of finding and examining the literature, as well as the process of presenting and discussing the results.
