ABSTRACT

The present chapter begins by providing a brief introduction to the policy area of housing and examining how the structure of tenure has evolved in the UK over the last decades. The discussion then focuses on the phenomenon of homelessness, the most severe form of housing needs and one that heavily affects many users of social services. Contributing factors to as well as effects of homelessness are analysed, following which the chapter ends with an overview of the main policy developments and strategies developed in the UK in order to tackle homelessness and some considerations about their implementation.
