This book is about the Devil, one of the most recognizable figures in Western culture. It is also about persistent, plaguing questions concerning the relationship between evil and humanity that cut across time and space. The pages that follow attempt to address these enormous topics by encountering them in post-Reformation Scotland, a place where Satan, as the Christian personification and purveyor of evil, loomed large in the mental worlds and daily lives of the Scottish people.
