ABSTRACT

The Safety Team Why Have a Team at All? Over the first ten chapters of the book a great deal of analysis and assessment work has been written about – hazard analysis, process analysis, matrix development, target setting, interpreting regulations etc. Just a few people with plenty of time can do all this. But that’s the point, whilst there may be just a few people who can/want do this, there probably isn’t the time. Further more, there probably isn’t all the appropriate knowledge and experience condensed into just a few people. There will need to be a group of people involved, and for any group effort, it is worth having the group working as a team. As a demonstration of the breadth of experience needed, below is the list of the group brought together to carry out the risk assessment on the St. Pancras Station Railway Safety Case in the UK [LCSP 2005]; ƒ Station & Safety Manager ƒ Compliance Manager ƒ Station Project Manager ƒ Duty Station Manager ƒ Risk Analyst ƒ Human Factors Specialist ƒ Head of Safety ƒ Interface Manager ƒ Contractor’s Design Manager.
