ABSTRACT
State regulation in the form of legal instruments is one of the elements of interest in understanding and explaining manufacturers’ responses on machinery safety matters, as legal instruments may contribute to the knowledge base and motivations for firms to take preventive action. The related role of regulators in supporting, inspecting and enforcing compliance is also crucial, and is examined in Chapter 5.
