ABSTRACT

Isni or Nisani), the suburb of TiBis lying on the left (northern) bank of the Kura (later called A vlabari). Here they were entertained with tournaments and feasts. The arrogance and irascibility of David had made him unpopular with the Kakhian nobles and some of them engaged Giorgi in a plot to kill his elder brother while he was drunk. The plot was revealed by Baram Cholokashvili; and David seized Giorgi and had him imprisoned in the castle of Torga in Kakheti (for which see Chap. 4, p. 159, n. I above and Commentary 28). Twelve of Giorgi's followers were decapitated and thrown from the walls of the castle of Dchoeti (ref. Brosset, HG, Vol. n/i, p. 156; also ibid., 'Suite des Annales', pp. 374-5). It is interesting to note that the powerful Cholokashvili family, related to the blood royal through the marriage of Anna Cholokashvili to Alexander I (1492-1 5 I I) and of Helen Cholokashvili to Av Giorgi (15 I 1-13), were partisans of David and, later, of his widow Ketevan and her infant son (afterwards Taymuraz I). On this family, see Iosseliani's Rod Knya{ey Cholakayevykh. Also Wak./Brosset (pp. 30-2). Iosseliani (p. 5) believes them to have been of ancient Albanian origin.
