COMMENTARY 65 The town ofGori (ref. Chap. 13, p. 472, n. 3) 'His town of Gori': a town and fortress in the triangle formed by the junction of the greater and lesser Lyakhvi rivers with the Kura. Commanding the approaches from the Turkish base at Akhaltsikhe along the middle Kura to their garrison in Tiflis and also the ways over the Likhis-mta (Suram mountains) from Kartli into Imereti, it was a place of strategic importance.
