ABSTRACT

It was Brosset, during the summer of 1844, who first systematically examined the documents relating to Georgian affairs preserved in the Main Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. He found there a register which he states was arranged in 'perfect chronological order'. It covered thirty-two bundles of papers, sixteen bound journals of embassies and five hundred and thirteen scrolls or documents. He was able to read the journals of the twenty embassies exchanged between the years 1586 to 1620 and numerous other papers which he details in his report.
