ABSTRACT

When, in 1624, Shah Abbas, infuriated by the alliance which Taymuraz had sought with the Turks, ordered the forcible conversion to Islam of Queen Ketevan, Imam-Kuli sought to persuade her to conform and, later, to delay the cruel vengeance of the Shah; but finally as the Khanlar-Khan of Shiraz he became the authority for her torture and death (see further Chap. 9, p. 401 , n. 2). The final ruin of the Undiladze family was encompassed by Imam-Kuli's rival for Shah Safi's favour, Khusrau-mirza; the occasion was a revolt in Georgia concerted between Taymuraz I and Da'ud Khan, then Begler-Beg of Genzha.
