ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the analysis of a sample of 19 randomly sampled GTAAs carried out throughout England between 2006 and 2008. In England, Government policy to assess the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers via GTAAs has pushed forward the need to debate and discuss the inclusion of Gypsies and Travellers as part of the broad diversity of the communities. New Association of Chief Police Officer (ACPO) guidance on the management of unauthorised encampments identifies the need for local authorities to engage with residents of Gypsy and Traveller sites that do not need to be immediately evicted by the police.
