ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book redresses the balance with respect to female clubbers and their experiences. Some clubbers and academics alike may feel that take an unduly pessimistic view of the changes in social spaces that produced the gendered relations. As the experiences of female clubbers show they face harassment and inequality because of their gendered positions within these spaces. The book claims some measure of uniqueness in the form of the data obtained from a female drug dealer, Melanie'. It highlights that identities for female clubbers are not static, and that they are linked to notions of style, music, attitude and sexual behaviour. The book argues that risk, danger and pleasure are linked in women's experiences of club spaces. Women's attitudes to condom use and safer sex in conjunction with drug use are based on levels of self-esteem and self-confidence.
