ABSTRACT

Were it not for the support given to it by the Trustees o f the British Museum and the Council o f the Royal Geographical Society, our Society would certainly not have been able to continue its work so long and so efficiently; and the Council welcomes this opportunity to acknowledge its great debt to them. The Director o f the British Museum and the President o f the Royal Geographical Society were among the founders o f the Hakluyt Society; ever since 1846 officers o f both these institutions have taken an active part in our w o rk ; and both have for many years generously provided our Society with house-room for meetings and office work. W e are proud o f this friendly co-operation, and trust that it will continue for yet another century.
