ABSTRACT

One of the most unique features about Hizb ut Tahrir (‘Party of Liberation’) compared with other Islamist movements is its commitment to maintaining ideological consistency. Since its inception in 1953 the group has remained focused on the sole issue of reviving an Islamic Caliphate. ‘Hizb ut Tahrir is a political party whose ideology is Islam, so politics is its work and Islam is its ideology’ it says (Hizb ut Tahrir 2000a: 1).
