ABSTRACT

The concept of karma yoga denotes duty, dharma, being discharged diligently and wholeheartedly, without hankering for recognition and reward in return, as a means to achieve Self-realization. Yoga may be defined as spiritual discipline to link one's self with the Supreme, and karma as material activities, for which one incurs subsequent reactions. Karma yoga constitutes an important part of the Bhagavad Gita, which is universally renowned as the jewel of India's spiritual wisdom. The four professional values included in the Spandan Spectrum of Human Values 2011 aim to embed the concept of karma yoga as a professional ethic for any person entrusted with the task of working with and through others managers, leaders, mentors, parents, teachers, bosses, friends and so on. A manager is expected to get desired results from and through people. A manager's attention to results has made the manager almost blind to the other aspects of task performance, like human relations, sentiments, concern for others.
