ABSTRACT

The concept of Institutional Civic Responsibility (ICR) arose from the contributions made by management and organizations to the community and society. The activities of smaller and not widely known organizations, such as Jaipur Rugs Company, Jaipur, India, clinched the issue. The Jaipur Rugs Foundation (JRF) is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable livelihoods for the rural poor to become artisans engaged in the rug value chain in India by empowering them to establish community-level enterprises through enhancing their artisanal and business skills. Jaipur Rugs is an India-based organization engaged in the manufacturing and exporting of hand knotted products since 1999. It manufactures elegantly designed and exquisitely finished, customized, handmade rugs, woven with wool and silk threads. A day-long Spandan work shop on human values was conducted at the Jaipur Rugs Centre on 29 February 2012 to crystallize thoughts with reference to the seven initiatives stated above.
