ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the Spandan 51:49 leadership philosophy and its role in the Spandan Approach. The Spandan Spectrum aims to identify an inventory of human values considered suitable for an organization to adhere to in order to maintain an optimal balance between results and relations as a means to evolve into a Functionally Humane Organization (FHO). As such, the Spandan Spectrum of Human Values 2011 has developed into an inventory of 33 human values, divided into three categories: Transformational, Transactional and Terminal. Mindful leadership is another leadership style and philosophy similar to that of Spandan's 51:49 leadership philosophy. Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa provides an excellent living example of transcendental leadership. The University of Exeter, United Kingdom (UK), conducted a review of leadership theory, based upon a review of the major theories of leadership developed so far.
