ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the idea of infusing family values in business and management, taking India as its frame of reference. values are inculcated too strongly, the system and its members develop rigidity, lack flexibility and will not be able to respond effectively to the changes in other systems and the environment. Values then become deterrents to remaking ourselves, enterprise and society. When the Industrial Revolution got underway in the mid-eighteenth century, its initiation, functioning, consolidation and expansion was undertaken by the communities and segments of society which were engaged in trade and commerce, which was family-owned and managed. study on the relevance of and adherence to family values in management was conducted in two organizations: the Jaipur Rugs Company in Jaipur and MART in Noida. Both are entrepreneur-driven organizations with a strong ethical orientation and an adherence to family culture and values in their working systems.
