ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to examine the cultural and social transformation that has been taking place in Cardiff since the late 1980s, influenced by the urban rejuvenation, waterfront revitalisation and economic restructuring processes addressed in the previous chapter. Special attention will be paid to the years since Wales became a devolved nation after the 1997 referendum and Cardiff’s role as a capital city was reinforced as the seat of national government. These profound changes have been shaping the city’s identity and determining its performance in the UK and in Europe.
