ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts covered in the preceding chapter of this book. The negative effect of deprivation on education has been an important theme in the research. One of the main findings reported is that the construction of disaffection is not homogeneous. It provides insight into how disaffected working class pupils form their identity, how they act, and what they find satisfying and perplexing about their roles. While the conceptual framework employed made for a layered analysis the remained open to the possibility that other explanatory frameworks may emerge and in fact, they did. The anti-social behaviour examines to reflect the particular frustrations of youth identity in marginal inner city neighbourhoods as they search for ways of achieving excitement and pleasure.
