ABSTRACT

A project team can suddenly find itself facing the challenge of adversity. The lead-up to this can be ambiguous and subtle, and often there is little warning. It is useful to foster a keen state of awareness that recognises and anticipates emerging adversity, but trouble is often only visible when it unfolds and a response is required. This chapter provides some answers as to how risks can be noticed, if not necessarily forecast in the traditional way. It addresses the issues of: ‘How can we foresee the future better?’ ‘How far we can look ahead?’ and ‘How we can keep an eye on uncertainty and complexity?’
