ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the types of skills and attitudes that people are likely to need from both a project manager and a project team. It also focuses on skills and attributes required and how they have changed in the light of the changing project environment and recent research into what makes projects successful. The earlier project management literature tends to focus on the differences between line managers and project managers; there is an emphasis on project management as a discrete short-term entity. The field of psychology offers a range of tools and techniques to assist in the selection of an effective project team, for example by using psychometric tests. Psychological tests are commonly used in employment situations both as coaching aids and to select and develop people. There are several different types of psychometric tests few tests namely, aptitude tests, ability tests, interest/motivation inventories, culture/climate inventories and personality measures/emotional intelligence.
