ABSTRACT

Governance is an over-used word that means what people want it to mean. Anything which helps to deliver a good outcome, or is itself a good outcome, runs the risk of being designated as an element of governance. ‘Efficiency’ has been described as a principle of governance, for instance, and so has ‘diversity of thought’. Both are good things, but I don’t think either of them is what governance is really all about.
