ABSTRACT

In this, the concluding chapter, we aim to both summarize what has been written about in the previous contributed chapters and also put forward an agenda for further geographical research on primary health care (PHC) both by health geographers specifically and more broadly by health science, health professional, and social science disciplines interested in geographic phenomena. We start by revisiting three themes integral to most definitions of PHC, including the foundational one set out in the Alma-Ata Declaration, that were introduced in Chapter 1, specifically: access, equity, and community. We then move to identify four emergent themes from the preceding contributed chapters: continuum and continuity of care, care sites, technology, and transforming PHC. These themes are crosscutting and certainly contribute to establishing and agenda for furthering the geographies of PHC.
