ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the significance of the research in terms of the contributions it makes to feminist practice, critical postmodern practice and critical reflection in social work and related fields. It explores some of the potential ethical issues posed by this type of the study and ultimately makes recommendations for further research. The research explores counsellors/advocates' perceptions of their capacities to deal with and change the legal system's responses to victims/survivors of sexual assault. A view of existing research in this field predominantly included feminist critiques of legal responses to sexual assault because it has been feminist scholars who have most comprehensively articulated the concerns of practitioners and described the impact of the inadequacies of the legal system on victims/survivors of sexual assault. Since logocentric thinking was identified as a potential limitation of this research, future studies into how logocentric thinking could be challenged in respectful ways would be informative.
