ABSTRACT

The overriding success factor for project schedule risk analysis is an organizational culture that is supportive of and values the project risk analysis process. Organizational risk management maturity starts with the organization's management. A risk-mature management recognizes that it needs to know about the risks to their project schedules. It is surprising to find out that management, in some companies or government agencies, does not always want to know about the risk to their projects' schedules. The conduct of schedule risk analysis should be programmed into the project plan including into the schedule and the budget at major decision points. It is a joy to be part of a risk analysis in a risk-mature organization that embraces the exercise and uses it in the way it was intended; that is to help focus on risk mitigation that may be available early in the project life cycle.
