ABSTRACT

This chapter examines government policies in relation to the threat of cyber terrorism and uses empirical evidence to look at the implementation of such laws and evidence. The UK security service monitor's the use of the Internet and cyber activities in the context of its counter-terrorism policies which aims to combat the threat of terrorism and now extremism in the realms of cyberspace. In an increasingly complex world of cyber crimes, cyber threats, cyber hate and terrorist related incidents on the web; the police have to play an important role in policing cyberspace. Cyber terrorism has become an international legislative issue which requires countries to pursue cyber terrorist acts via their own traditional modes of legal practice as well as using cyber crimes to prosecute those involved. In the UK the response to the threat of cyber terrorism developed from the cyber security strategy. The Terrorism Act 2006 created a number of new offences related to cyberspace.
