ABSTRACT
Naked in the Afternoon', the opening song of Jandek's 1978 debut, Ready for the House, is classic Jandek, establishing the tone for the rest of the album as well as the next several decades' worth of recordings. Midway through Ready for the House Jandek's rhythmic trudge grinds to a halt at the conclusion of 'They Told Me About You', yielding to the stronger tempo of 'Cave In On You'. 'European Jewel' Marked as 'incomplete' on the Ready for the House version of the song. Over the years, musicians enter and then leave the Jandek world. Their transience, along with Jandek's lyrical content, contributes to sense of the project as one that is autobiographical. Filmmakers Chad Friedrichs and Paul Fehler aim, at least in part, to humanize the person behind Jandek in the film, Phil Milstein, interview with the author, September 26, 2011, but not without exploring the mystery man aspect of the project.
