ABSTRACT

This book presents diverse perspectives on community-based disaster resilience using case studies from six continents, by authors with practical and academic expertise from a wide range of different sectors in the disaster risk management field. It also demonstrates the intricacies of the interrelationships between humans and nature in preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and rebuilding resilient communities after disasters. The diversity of the contributions is a reflection of the growing commitment of researchers and practitioners to examine and explicate the social, technical, and spatial dimensions of disaster risk management.
