Nikki McGavin: You once told me that when you began a new piece of music you not only imagined how the first sound would start – where it would come from, which instrument, which performer – but you also visualized how the performers would arrive on stage, where they would sit, how they would look, what they would do. Can you tell me a bit more about this process of ‘beginning’?
