ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the challenges the country is faced with subsequent to the military defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). It discusses various developments and issues, national and international, faced by the country in post-conflict period. The chapter analyses identified developments and issues and their respective current status in post-conflict scenario vis--vis their possible status in post-Accord scenario. The allegations of high casualty figures gave rise to accusation that the GoSL and LTTE were guilty of war crimes, resulting in the attempt at bringing a United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution to investigate war crimes in Sri Lanka.
