ofMa~maandtownofArquiquo,wheneverTurksor Roumyswhodotheminjurycametothisport,allfled
tothemountainsandcarriedoffsuchoftheirpropertyas
theycouldcarry,andnowtheyhadnotchosentofly
becausetheyhadheardthatwewereChristians.Hearing
thisthegreatcaptaingavethankstoGodforthenews,and
nameofChristianswhichhehadmetwith,andwhich
greatlyfavouredMattheus,whocameratherunfavourably:
andheorderedarichgarmenttobegiventotheChristian,
andtotheJ\foorheshowedgreatfavour,andtoldthemthat
theyhaddonewhattheyoughtinnotstirringfromthe
townofArquiquo,sinceitbelongedtoChristians,andthe
Prester,astheysaid,andthathiscomingwasonlyforthe
serviceandfriendshipofthePresterJohnandallhispeople,
andthattheymightgoinpeaceandbeinsecurity.
