ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the methods and techniques used in the book. The first study was a large scale qualitative one based on semi structured interviews, using the techniques of grounded theory. The primary aim of this work was to explore the factors that influence interethnic identity, in particular those with an Asian and white background. The aim also of this initial study was to see what common themes emerged. The second study was based on both biographical diaries and semi structured interviews. These were analysed using the approaches of discourse analysis.
