ABSTRACT

Whilst the focus of this book is on interethnic children it is important to understand the experiences of the couples in interethnic relationships (South Asian and white) – the parents of the interethnic children interviewed. These experiences will be presented here. The issues that will be discussed are attitude and culture, their children’s identity, racism, family and the community. It is important to discuss such topics from the parents’ perspective to allow a fuller understanding of their relationships and the ways that they might impact on the children and their ethnic identity. That is, a more complete picture can be obtained about the interethnic children and adolescents by exploring their families. The findings will be theorised in nine grounded theoretical propositions.
