ABSTRACT

It was clear from the findings that some of the young people were electing not to limit themselves to a fixed white/black or Asian identity but instead adopting a situational identity to benefit their social context. These people tended to switch between facets of their identities, that is they emphasised different aspects, depending on whom they were with or the situation they were in. This chapter, following on from the last chapter, will discuss the finding of a situational identity. It will outline both the qualitative and quantitative research findings.
