ABSTRACT

Globalization, international migration and cosmopolitanism all require explanation. However, the expression ‘globalization’ needs particular exposition, for it is used in a contested and popular sense that is not conceptually rigorous. 1 Migration, especially international migration, is both cause and consequence of globalization. I focus here on eight recent forms of migration. My remarks on ‘everyday cosmopolitanism’ are partly drawn from my work with Vertovec (Vertovec and Cohen 2002). I provide four vignettes to illustrate the connections between the three themes before providing a conclusion.
