ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the concept of legacy, as it relates to sport mega-events and to their host cities, focusing on knowledge, a concept that, until recently, has not been analyzed in this context. Legacy as knowledge' might also be applied to comparative research within the tradition of Olympic Studies with such an approach referring to the knowledge-sharing legacies that originate from national, regional and local analyses of specific sporting mega-events or sports in general. The chapter examines the way in which knowledge production contributes to the concept of legacy, illustrated by reference to various examples of academic knowledge produced. It explores Knowledge Transfer and Knowledge Management Practices and, Knowledge Legacy. The Olympic Games Knowledge Management (OGKM) programme consists of three main sources: information, services and personal experience. Information includes the Official Games Reports, technical manuals, knowledge reports and a range of other documents and publications made available on a dedicated extra-net.
