ABSTRACT

Increasingly, the human resource profession is now represented at board level of companies through the appointment of HR and resources directors; this was the exception only a few years ago. This change demonstrates in a very tangible way that business organisations have a need for representation in board discussions of what is seen to be the single most important asset of most businesses – people. Despite HR’s increasing representation at the board table, one of the hot debates among HR professionals centres on their role and business contribution. 1
