ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how three important dimensions in project must be regarded and linked. These dimensions are work, organization and cost. Every project task has its own relationship with the work breakdown structure (WBS), cost breakdown structure (CBS) and organization breakdown structure (OBS). The picture for any big project is extremely complex and difficult for even the expert to understand because it contains a vast amount of data that is dynamic and changes with time and progress. The chapter introduces a case example to show how the WBS, OBS and the CBS for a fairly small project would be arranged and related with each other. The organization breakdown for this project is identical to part of the organization of the Airpress Test Inc (ATI) company, but it excludes the administration departments that are always treated as overheads and which cannot accrue any costs directly attributable to the project. For the same reason, senior management are excluded.
