ABSTRACT

A manager need to review strategy checkpoints on a quarterly basis – monthly is usually too operational and yearly is too distant to be meaningful. To have an effective strategic cadence that respects working in and working on the business, the following principles or guidelines are recommended: purpose is to resolve issues not present data, timing and purpose of Quarterly Reviews (QRs), SHOULD versus ACTUAL – finding the why behind positive and negative deviations using strategic goals, Product Market Capability (PMC) Engine and Strategic Performance Indicators (SPIs), issues blocking the achievement of manager's strategic goals should come from the organization, not just the executive team and feed relevant marketing intelligence to QRs. Companies that grow profitably during certain and uncertain times do so by using their strategy to test alignment and competitiveness of their organization against the backdrop of relevant global issues impacting performance.
