ABSTRACT

This book commenced with a question posed by the Mayor of London, 'To the banker bashers I say, what's your ideal economic model?' The contributors have answered – not that which has driven the city's development over recent decades. The pervasive effects of a highly financialised economy, with its impacts upon arts, culture, creativity, employment and the very social fabric of the city makes it difficult it seems, even in the midst of a long downturn, for alternative social and economic ideas to emerge in response to a model that has failed.
