ABSTRACT

In 2000, the council organised a UK Gay sports festival, and libraries were involved with that project. It was huge and really pulled local LGBT people together, and since then there has been an LGBT forum which meets with the council. It is vital that the cultural sector not only celebrates events such as LGBT History Month and LGBT Pride, but also engages in programming LGBT-related activities throughout the year and also weaves them into other activities. Being inclusive As Elizabeth L Chapman suggests, within the LGBT community, some groups are less well-served than others. London Metropolitan Archives hosted a presentation in October 2012 by Ajamu about his work recording Black LGBT people and his forthcoming exhibition, Fierce, at Guildhall Art Gallery. Barnsley Council has taken part in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and from that an action plan for the Council has been created in which libraries are involved.
