ABSTRACT

Ground rules are a set of commonly agreed and understood guidelines which govern the process by which an Away Day will be run, as well as the standards of behaviour expected of all participants.

The development of ground rules helps teams to work cohesively. Ground rules even out the extremes. They allow the quiet ones to speak and the noisier ones to listen. Having ground rules gives licence to the facilitator and the group to refer to the structure as a way of managing disruption and disturbances without being autocratic.
