ABSTRACT

This and the following chapter are both partly endpoints to which the three preceding chapters have been leading, and partly a departure from the regional focus adopted in those chapters. In this chapter we are concerned with individual event. In previous chapters the discussion has roamed widely across the region and even when concerned with sub-regional geographies individual examples have been deployed to support a broader focus. The aim of this chapter is to move the discussion on, through a concentration on place and the detailed discussion and contextualisation of individual events, to, in the following chapter, a consideration of new ways of thinking about the relationships between space and protest.
