ABSTRACT

This Conclusion is structured in two main ways. Returning to the notion of visual literacy, but this time in the context of the internet and social media, the first part of the Conclusion briefly reviews the main chapters in turn and discusses how the concept of lamination was applied in each case. From the wider scheme, the second part explains how the visual turn has facilitated the greater appreciation and acceptance of photographs and other visual media in sociology, which leads to new perspectives such as lamination. But it also finishes with a reminder of the necessity of language in relation to the photographic image in sociological contexts, as has been a central claim in the argument throughout.
