ABSTRACT

Hans Küng is one of the best known contemporary Catholic theologians. His name is closely linked to the Second Vatican Council (1962–65) and stands both for Christian ecumenism and for a consistent reform of the church in accordance with scripture. He has published comprehensive works on the renewal of ecclesiology, Christology, and the doctrine of God in accordance with scripture. His discussions of these topics have lost none of their relevance; this also applies to the difficult questions of the Petrine ministry and infallibility. The ecclesiastical sanctions against Küng only served to enhance his celebrity and influence. There have been no substantial discussions or refutations of his disputed theses up to the present day.
