ABSTRACT
Paul Ricoeur is not a theologian but a philosopher, and it is important that a theologian who uses his texts should bear this in mind. He repeatedly made it clear that he was not a Christian philosopher, but a philosopher with theological interests. He also emphasized that his philosophical writings possess autonomy in relation to his theological writings and his Christian conviction. He was, however, deeply interested in theology and religion throughout his life.
