ABSTRACT
Space and time are by definition bounded in island landscapes. Boundedness, in turn, amplifies the potential of a landscape approach in negotiating past and future, hence mediating conservation and development. Island cultures on the other hand are at once resistant to change, attached to traditional ways and practices, and, moreover, vulnerable to it, eager to widen the range of available livelihoods that are by definition limited.
