ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 referred to some of the macro and micro challenges facing internationalising multi-unit organisations at the present time, including the growing significance of local competition. As Figure 1.2 demonstrates, there are further interlinked forces and contingent variables that need to be considered in a contextual consideration of the subject in question. These will be elaborated upon in this chapter which will delve deeper into the processes and success factors of internationalisation: broader dependencies which determine the success or failure of HMUL operations. A combination of academic insights and case studies will illuminate the constructs which populate owner and subsidiary context drivers highlighted in Figure 1.2.
