ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to bring to light a dynamic between spaces devoid of rules and humans stripped of their rights. This dynamic explored here is achieved through calibrating the relationship between law and force. The theme examined relates certain textual practices associated with the law to demonstrate the law (being a system of enforceable rules) functioning as a social link between persons (being bearers of rights and duties within a legal system) and social practices, and how these are either fostered or undermined by the relationship between law, force and violence.
